GOOD SHABBOS
13 May 2010 |
|
|

Dear All,
The weather is getting a bit better, with not sooo much rain……and bright sunny days….very pleasant for Sooka 2010 …
The ‘Rugger’ was exciting this weekend, with the Bulls JUST edging the Crusaders with that last suspect try (???) Methinks that it was a Bulls knock on, and the Crusaders should have won…,, BUT … as Naaaaaasty (Naas) Botha says, it what the points say on the score board, and cowboys don’t cry, they ‘chunk’..Naas Bota se so ……The Reds were beaten, and I reckon they just had a special mid season ofGR888 wins, BUT…cannot carry on….The Sharks win over the Stormers , mixed everything up, and depending on the final games this weekend, could still mean that the Stormers ‘might’ not storm in, and have an away Semi….The Lions were again consistent in their loss, and have not won a game this season…. It has been many years, since soooo many teams were in the running for a Semi spot, with the last games making the decider….I am really worried about the Bulls ability to win the Final, with the next few games played away from ‘Fort Loftus’ and although Matfield said Orlando would be fine, not the same….BUT would be good for ‘Rugger’
Last week I mentioned SAUJS & Maccabi ‘Rugger’ … SAUJS narrowly lost 22 - 17 to Engineers that are on top of the log and the Maccs beat Eldorado Park 19 – 12 ..Get involved and join up to play League ‘Rugger’ with your Chaveirim…..

VRYSTAAAAAAAAAT!
A Free State "Boer" walks into his local bar and to his surprise finds a little Japanese man sitting in his regular chair.
"Kleingat, you sommer sitting op my stoel" he angrily shouts.
Before he knows it the Jap is up and knocks the farmer flying.
After the farmer recovers he asks: "What the blerry hell was that?"
"Zat martial art from my country Japan" replies the Jap and strolls off in a stroppy way.
The following day the farmer finds the Jap in "His" seat again.
The farmer goes: "You is alweer sitting op my stoel" and again the Jap knocks the farmer out with some nifty Kung Fu.
On regaining consciousness the farmer asks: "What the blerry hell was that?"
"Zat Karate from my country Japan" and as stroppy as ever ambles off.
Now the farmer is dik die moer in.........
The next day the farmer finds the Jap sitting in "His" chair again!
"So, you is alweer sitting op my stoel. Vat So" and he knocks the daylights out of the Jap with one blow.
The little Jap comes around after some time and asks the farmer what was that?
The farmer replies: "That, my china was a bliksemse Isuzu 2.8 litre turbo diesel bakkie se wheelspanner....also from your country Japan" (Vat hom Fluffy……..).
Went to Highlands to watch them play Sandringham yesterday, and I must say some things NEVER change….They was some SERIAAAAAAAAAS fighting on the field, and Highlands were on top of the situation , like in the old days, BUT….we used to get ‘moered’ and BUT…Highlands won 25-5……The ‘GEES’ was unbelievable, and the spirit of the spectators was E-mazing..

A man goes to a bar with his dog. He goes up to the bar and asks for a drink. The bartender says "You can't bring that dog in here!"
The guy, without missing a beat, says "This is my guide dog."
"Oh man,” the bartender says, "I'm sorry, here, the first one's on me."
The man takes his drink and goes to a table near the door.
Another guy walks in the bar with a Chihuahua. The first guys sees him, stops him and says "You can't bring that dog in here unless you tell him it's a guide dog." The second man graciously thanks the first man and continues to the bar where he asks for a drink.
The bartender says "Hey, you can't bring that dog in here!"
The second man replies "This is my guide dog."
The bartender says, "No, I don't think so. They do not have Chihuahuas as guide dogs."
The man pauses for a half-second and replies "What? They gave me a Chihuahua?"
The ‘World Cup’ Sokka 2010 ‘Circus’ continues, with still a lot of tickets available for not such GR8888 games, and I have been unable to get tickets for the Opening or Final, BUT…the rest seem available …. Everything seems ready, besides the road works, and of course MANY of the ‘Wekkers’ threatening to strike…which is of course why we will win the World Cup…We have the best ‘Strikers’ in the World…….another ‘Skandaaaaaaaal’ has broken with the revelation by the Sunday Times that Half of the Material endorsements, belong to a private company and not SAFA , and that no one is sure of how the Rights were sold, or how much $$$$ changed hands……Mmmmmmmm ..

SASFIN’S ‘Sokka Friday’ was E-mazing on Friday with them launching a Building Size Shirt on the building and they had a few Dinki Dancers teaching the staff (Oey vey..) …
Banking on our boys!
Banks don’t bet – but Sasfin has put its shirt on Bafana Bafana!
Well… in a manner of speaking…..
To proclaim its support for the national team, the niche banking group has pulled a ‘Good Luck’ shirt over one of its head office buildings that face onto the M1 motorway – opposite Melrose Arch.
The question is: “Will it draw more attention than Sasfin’s real-time R/$ exchange rate screen, which is a long-established ‘must read’ for the business boffins as they weave their way along the M1 to and from the office each day?

After stopping for drinks at an illegal shebeen, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped.
Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days. E-mazing how Mark & Jodi Reichenberg are getting around in Israel, after getting there a few months ago…They were at Court 14 when Conor Nilnad beat Harel Levy the Israeli favourite…Court 14 was packed for most the day’s play and despite the disappointment for local fans, the tennis was entertaining. For 14 year old Saul Reichenberg of Kfar Saba, who is a new immigrant from South Africa, “I loved it. It’s the first time I have been to the Ramat Hasharon Tennis Center and although I was disappointed that Harel and Dudi lost their matches, it’s was a treat for me to see top tennis players in action.” Saul who plays tennis said “It’s important to see these guy’s play. It’s inspiring.”“Why, what does it do for you?” “Who knows? If I practice hard and develop my game, maybe I will one day be playing down there” pointing to the court “instead of sitting up here.
”The stand at court 14 was packed with youngsters that must have had similar thoughts as young Reichenberg of Kfar Saba. This augers well for Israeli tennis. Picture http://stantgsm.com/list_pics.php

Mr. Cohen walks along the street accompanied by his dog when he meets Mr. Levy.
They exchange the usual niceties and then Mr. Levy asks: ..
"Mr. Cohen, tell me, does your dog bite?"
Mr. Cohen replies: "No, my dog doesn't bite."
A few minutes pass and suddenly the dog grabs Mr. Levy’s ankle, who jumps from pain.
Mr. Levy blurts: "Mr. Cohen, you told me that your dog doesn't bite."
Mr. Cohen replies calmly: "Yes, my dog doesn't bite, but who says that this is my dog!"

A Traffic cop pulled a Free State farmer over for speeding.
The farmer pleaded that he wasn't much over the speed limit.
But the cop continued to slowly write out the ticket.
He brushed a fly off his face.
The farmer said, "That sirkelgogga bothering you?"
The cop said, "What's a sirkelgogga?"
The farmer said, "That fly - they circle a horse's back side and we call them sirkelgoggas."
The cop stopped writing, looked at the farmer, and said,
"Are you trying to say I'm a horse's @ss?"
The farmer said, "Never! I have a great respect for officers of the law."
The cop carried on writing.
After a while the farmer said, ……….. "But you can't fool them flies." (Einaaaaaaah..)

Dear Employees:
As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our President and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way.
To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to increase by about 10%. But since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off sixty of our employees instead.
This has really been bothering me since I believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who would have to go.
So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lots and found sixty 'Obama' bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks will be the ones to let go. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. They voted for change ...... I gave it to them.
I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic. …….. THE BOSS (Mmmmm..).

| MANTIS SECURITY TIP (Call 011- 487-1000) of the week; |
- HOUSE ATTACKS …………. In General:
- House robbery is different to a burglary as it is done when the residents are present
- Burglaries nets mostly the bulky items, house robberies can net the hidden cash, jewellery and items
- from the safe
- Police arrests are mostly by accident and not as a result of TV-like sleuthing . that is a MYTH
- 89% of aggravated house robbery cases do not reach court
- SAPS does not debrief convicted criminals and do not learn anything new
- Money disputes are a major source of .revenge. attacks, where ex employees lead or inform attackers on the house and the residents
These 2 lessons were sent with the report…

Parsha of The Week |
|
Rabbi Yossy Goldman,
Sydenham Shul,
C/O ‘Beloved Country’
Wisdom from the Wilderness
"Numbers" may be the name by which the fourth of the Five Books of Moses is commonly called, but in the Hebrew original it is known as Bamidbar, or "In the Wilderness." It is interesting to note that this parsha is always read immediately before the festival of Shavuot, "the season of the giving of the Torah." What is the connection?
The Sages teach that it is not enough for G-d to give us the Torah, we have to be ready to receive the Torah. What makes us worthy recipients of this most precious and infinite gift from G-d? This is where the "wilderness" idea comes in. A wilderness is a no-man’s land. It is ownerless and barren. Just as a desert is empty and desolate, so does a student of Torah need to know that he is but an "empty vessel." Humility is a vital prerequisite if we are to successfully absorb divine wisdom.
As long as we are full of ourselves and our preconceived notions, we will not be able to assimilate and integrate Torah into our being. Even if are already somewhat accomplished in our Torah studies, we still need to remember--as the Kotzker Rebbe put it--that "as much as you know, you are still an undeveloped wilderness."
Then there is the idea that an ownerless wilderness is there for anyone to stake his claim. No person or group of people has a monopoly on Torah. It belongs to each and every single Jew, not just the rabbis or the yeshiva students, or the religiously observant. "The Torah that Moses commanded us is the heritage of the entire Congregation of Jacob" (Deuteronomy 33:4). While we acknowledge that there is much hard work ahead of us if we are to acquire the Torah and make it ours, we also know that with diligence and effort we can succeed. Indeed, some of our finest Torah scholars throughout the generations have hailed from the simple, ordinary folk -- tailors, cobblers and the like.
Maimonides in his Laws of Torah Study (3:1) states: "With three crowns was Israel adorned--the crown of Torah, the crown of the priesthood and the crown of royalty. The priesthood was the privilege of Aaron…royalty was the privilege of King David…the crown of Torah is there ready and waiting for all of Israel... and it is the greatest crown of all."
However, while Torah may be "free for all" as a desert wilderness, we must surrender ourselves to it, emptying ourselves of our ego and our preconceptions, rather than attempting to adjust it to our own circumstances and lifestyles.
And then, like the empty, uninhabited wilderness, the Torah personality may well find himself alone and isolated. We might express our strongly held values and beliefs only to discover that we stand alone. We might display the courage of our convictions and find ourselves, like Abraham, "on the other side" of the whole world. Our principles may well prove unpopular, especially should they stand on toes or upset apple carts. No matter. Being true to G-d and His Torah means standing by it, under any and every circumstance.
May the literal title of our parshah of Bamidbar and the many lessons it conveys serve as a fitting prelude for the beautiful festival of Shavuot. May we receive the Torah with joy and earnestness so that this important festival will be both memorable and meaningful.
