GOOD SHABBOS
17 June 2010 |
|
|

Dear All,
The weather last Thursday started off soooo ‘KAK’, BUT by midday it had cleared, and they had the Sokka 2010 Concert in Good weather, and then Friday, the Opening of the games the weather started off again VERY Shwagg, BUT….by 1.00 pm , an hour before the opening ceremony the clouds disappeared, and it turned out a TRULY Souff Effrikken winters day, with bright blue sky’s and PLENTY of Sun, and of course the “ GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES” was E-mazing, and I am sure not to be repeated in my life time again…..The whole place was covered in Yellow Bafana Bafana jerseys, and Souff Effrikken flags…..and of course a reminder that the Red goes on top, as soooo many wave the flag the wrong way round…………..(Those made in China…..)
The weather has ‘ever sooooo suddenly ‘ become VERY cold, with huge snow on the Mountains in the Cape & Durban…..
The Opening ceremony, and Game were very memorable, with it going very well, except for the Traffic jams all over….sure that many did not realize how big the moment would be, and were caught in ‘Humungous’ traffic ‘Log Jam’ trying to get to Sokka City and home to watch the Opening, BUT….no one really minded, and the games have gone off pretty well, with no clear GR8888 teams emerging yet……(maybe the Geeeermans & Brazeeeeeeeeel) ..E-mazing that ; Souff Effrikka has become the first African Nation to host the Sokka World Cup and even more E-mazing, the first country in the World to have hosted the Rugby, Cricket and Sokka World Cups.(Eat your heart out ‘Ozzies’)
England goalkeeper Robert Green is to take over as chairman of BP on Monday.
A spokesman said that "Green is an expert on spillages and helping out America in time of need".
Man went into a chemist's to buy condoms. Got the "Robert Green"pack:
extra slippery and guaranteed not to catch anything.
With the GR888888 Sokka 2010 on the same weekend as the ‘Rugger ‘ Test in Cape Town, people thought the ‘Rugger’ would be a wash up….as there was a Big game on Friday night ……NO WAY, the ‘Rugger’ was full and E-mazing…..The ‘Bokke’ did VERY well to beat the French sooo convincingly, and I reckon that PDV has to eventually realize that Kirschner is not ready for Test Rugger, and an alternative has to be found….until Joe is back…maybe Ruan or ‘Apolontjie’..??? Even Butch James..??? The Schvatzers are back, with an incredible display of power ‘Rugger’ from a virtual reserve team..?? Carter is back to form and the forwards were awesome, and will be a big threat in the future, building up to the World Cup…….One thing the Bokke can learn from the All Black –Ireland game is that if you play dirty, you will pay, and the poor Irish at one time only had 13 men on……
England were hopeless against the Aussies, BUT…the Aussies did not have a GR8888 game, and besides a few GR888 line players have not got the Shpielers to win the World Cup…..The Tri nations will be VERY interesting, with the Aussies not featuring….??? The Puma’s were awful against Scotland who deserved the win……Must say, a few GOOD rugger games , are better than the WHOLE World Cup SOKKA…the action in a Rugger game, cannot be matched by the slow tempo of SOKKA….both have been GR8888 to watch this past week… Italy….Not worth a comment…WILL win…..should have rested some Manne, and made it a game……
My computer has just been infected with the 'Rob Green virus' - now I can't save anything!
Steven Gerrad says - the whole team is behind Robert Green - in retrospect that's a good place to stand!
Fabio Capello has warned all his players about the possible dangers of catching aids during this trip to Africa.
All except for Robert Green that is, who is in NO danger of catching anything at all!
On Friday, the 18th of June, don't miss it. ….A war of two nations - England and Algeria.
One of them, a fanatical Muslim country where bombers and terrorists are born and trained. Where tough Sharia Law is being implemented and white Christians are outcasts and live in constant fear for their lives.
The other ALGERIA……………..(Bittere Gelechte….)
With such GR888 Sokka & ‘Rugger’ this past weekend, the Bok Cricketers in the West Indies were all but forgotten…..as they played a GR888 test, to win handsomely……VERY handsomely….BUT, the Windies are not what they were..
A farmer had to attend a seminar and would be gone for a few days which worried
him has there would be nobody to look after his wife and the farm.
As a consequence, he grabbed his 'boss-boy' Philemon and told him that whilst he was away, there were two things that had to be done daily - he explained carefully that he (Philemon) must ensure that he puts the WHITE pill in the pool and also that he gives his prize stud bull the BLUE pill which will make him strong for the 'jig-a-jig'.
He asked Philemon if he understood whereupon Philemon said 'Yes baas, the white pill for the bull and the blue pill for the pool.'
No the farmer said - it’s the other way around.
OK says Philemon and the farmer goes off to the seminar.
He comes back a few days later and realizes that there is chaos on the farm.
Philemon is running around like a chicken without a head, the farmer grabs him and asks if his prize bull is OK. No baas, says Philemon, the bull is dead but that's nothing you should see what the Kreepy Krauly is doing to the madam! (Oey vey………).
Yesterday was a Public Holiday (June 16th. ’old’ Soweto Day, now Youth day) , and it was Tukka a ‘Bak Balles in the Sonskyn ‘ day (relaxing ‘Shikkere’ day for the ‘wekkers’) and of course the Bonus was that Bafana Bafana played Uruguay in the evening……It has taken many years for the ‘Beloved Country’ to mature from the horrific scenes of 16 th. June , 1976, which saw the First MAJOR trek of South Effrikkens for greener pastures….not sure if those pastures are still sooooo green…??? Hopefully the Sokka 2010 ‘Circus’ will go a long way to settling things in the ‘Beloved Country’ and we won’t slip back into the normal ‘Drek’ we have found ourselves in the past few years…..Growth and integration must be speeded up, if we are to get better….! ! ! ! ! ! Methinks that Bafana are not to blame for their dismal performance……they are after all placed 85 in World rankings, and only the 32 best came……Give the ‘Boys’ the benefit, as they are out of their Class…….hope that the ‘Shreklach’ performance does not put a damper on the rest of the Cup…??? As the streets were VERY quite today…..
Honesty...
Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried
chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right,
everyone else in the class laughed.
My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried
chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and
he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love
animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken and beef.
Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what
happened, and he laughed too. Then he told me not to do it again.
The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal
was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd
asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make
them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal's office
again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.
I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher
doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what
famous person we admire most.
I told her, "Colonel Sanders".
Guess where I am now...
Some exciting news from Durban is that they are planning a new ‘Yiddisher’ complex North of Durban - at a Special General Meeting, after heated debate, a vote was taken whether or not to pursue a development north of Durban. The vote was affirmative. The steering committee now have a mandate to establish a satellite Shul, seating 200 persons, a brocha room and a Jewish day school (starting with the little ones). The development will take place in Izinga. It is 2km North from Gateway and probably the same distance to the sea in the greater Umhlanga precinct. It is close to Sibaya Casino and the new Shaka International Airport. The community hoping for more up country Jews retiring to this area.
At the same time, it is expected that many more young couples and religious couples will establish themselves in this area. To this end, the development will act as a catalyst.
The development will be modern and state of the art. Those interested in a lifestyle change and who would like to live at the coast, in a safe Jewish environment, now have the perfect opportunity to do so. For those that do not know the area, it is just a bit past Umhlanga Rocks, Beverley Hills country…….
Shakeach…………
As I noted originally, ‘All is not Kosher’ in the Wilf Rosenberg story published by www.Noseweek.co.za ……many ‘Meisa’s’ are just that, and I have always said I was not sure how they get away with the Drek….BUT, it is worse to get involved with them… http://www.haaretz.com/magazine/anglo-file/south-african-jewish-rugby-legend-rejects-muckraker-s-report-on-mafia-ties-1.294142#send-friend-popup …………. Wilf’s sister Vivienne sent me this link, which appeared in
Haaretz, the Israeli newspaper……
An English professor wrote the words:
"A woman without her man is nothing" on the chalkboard and asked his students to punctuate it correctly.
All of the males in the class wrote:
"A woman, without her man, is nothing."
All the females in the class wrote:
"A woman: without her, man is nothing."
Punctuation is powerful
MY DAY AT SOKKA 2010 –
Monay 14th.June – SOKKA CITY-SOWETO….What an ending…Yislaaaaaaaik…
I had the most E-mazing day at the Sokka and reckon that ‘Yidlach’ should try and go to a least ONE game to get the GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES…. It was a long day, as we left home at 8.30 am, got to Constitutional Hill (Old Fort –Hillbrow) at 9.45, parked and queued for an hour for a bus, drove thru’ Joburg City in a few minutes, as they had cops at every robot, letting the busses through.. It was ‘Jacked’...got to the stadium with about 2 hours to spare and just walked around, and before you knew it, the game was starting…Saw many ‘Yidden’ at the game, and even the ‘Samo Broers’ (Gill & Joe Samowitz’s Zunnelle’s) who came from Sydney, and sat in the row behind us…Quite E-mazing in a 90,000 seater…..the whole atmosphere was incredible, and the Dutch beat Denmark 2-0….going out to the busses caused a bit of confusion, and when we got to the station, everyone was just milling around as they had trouble with the bus drivers, and I warned my Zunnelle Martin and two Chavers from San Diego Robbie Lazarow (Son of Jeff who was at Highlands with me) and Darren Levitt (My old S & P partner Dennis’s nephew) to put all ‘geld’ in front pockets and hold on, which I had in my last Shabbos Letter, and all of a sudden I felt a few people squeezing into me, and pushed them off, put my hand in my pocket and the Wallet with $$$, Credit Cards and of course Drivers license gone…not even a second it took …got on the Bus cancelled the Credit Cards , the $$$ were ‘Bagrobbed’ (lost) and the only real worry was the Drivers license as it is such a hassle, BUT….in spite of this incident, it was an E-mazing day, getting home at 5.30 pm….Next day I went to my Chaver Roy Friedman at Photogenic and he took small pictures, and I was now ready to start queuing for my temporary /drivers license all over again…..
Tuesday night I get a call from “ Stokkies” who is a policeman and he tells me that they have my wallet, with everything except the money…..WOW, was I excited….now “ Stokkies” was working around the clock, as he is on Stadium Duty at various games, and was already at the Brazil – Korea game at Ellis Park.
Oey vey…..and then I called my SASFIN PA, Steve Romberg who was at the game, and he met up with “ Stokkies” and I got my Drivers license back…What an adventure….and what a GR88888888888888 ending….IF you can go to a game , gooooooo…it is E-mazing, and those Vusi’s are not that bad…..take a set of ear plugs if you are worried….. http://stantgsm.com/list_pics.php
Two women were sitting in the doctor's waiting room comparing notes on their various disorders. "I want a baby more than anything in the world," said the first, "but I guess it is impossible."
"I used to feel just the same way," said the second. "But then everything changed.
That's why I'm here. I'm going to have a baby in three months."
"You must tell me what you did." "I went to a faith healer." "But I've tried that.
My husband and I went to one for nearly a year and it didn't help a bit."
The other woman smiled and whispered, "Try going alone, next time, dearie."
An ‘Old’ Stan & Pete ‘Wekker’ , Mitch Berenson is coming to Joburg for the Sokka 2010 Final, and will be doing two free seminars on temp visas, work, student, tourist, green cards, the current immigration landscape and the future in the USofA…….Mitch will also be seeing one on one’s , soooo what ever your need is , send him an e-mail to book, as he is here for only a few days…. Mich is a nephew to Jack & Louis Garb, who are originally from the Shetl of Mayfair….
Mitch Berenson … MBerenson@visastousa.com for appointment/seminar…
For those of you who have never travelled to the West or Southwest, cattle guards are horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings, in dug-out places in the roads adjacent to highways (sometimes across highways), to prevent cattle from crossing over that area. For some reason the cattle will not step on the "guards," probably because they fear getting their feet caught between the rails.
A few months ago, President Obama received a report that there were over 100,000 cattle guards in Colorado. Because Colorado ranchers had protested his proposed changes in grazing policies, he ordered the Secretary of the Interior to fire half of the guards immediately.
Before the Interior Secretary could respond and presumably straighten him out, Vice-President, Joe Biden, intervened with a request that before any guards were fired, they be given six months of retraining! ( Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… )
Numerous armies have indicated a very serious interest in the Trophy system, but so far, the IDF is not prepared to share the technology with anyone. Watch this video with ‘Yiddisher Nachus’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62jzAupr044

Good Equipment
An amateur photographer was invited to dinner with friends and took
along a few pictures to show the hostess.
She looked at the photos and commented "These are very good!
You must have a good camera."
He didn't make any comment, but, as he was leaving to go home he said,
"That was a really delicious meal! You must have some very good pots."
This is a recording of the opening ceremony of the Dubai Fountain. It was dubbed as the most technologically advanced show. The Dubai Fountain cost US$218 million. Water jets can reach up to 50 stories in height. Plus, the fountain measures longer than two football fields at over 275 meters in length. It is so impressive when it is in full display that it can be seen up to 200 miles away on a clear day. Bit ‘Mishuga’ to spend this on a Fountain…………????

NEVER CHEAT ON A COUNTRY WOMAN!
A country wife came home just in time to find her husband in bed with
another woman. With super-human strength, borne of fury, and cutting
firewood, lifting sacks of feed, and bales of hay, she dragged him
down the stairs, out the back door, and into the barn.
She put his manhood in a vice and then secured it tightly and removed
the handle. Next she picked up an old carpenter's saw.
The banged-up-cheater was terrified and hollered, ! "Stop! Stop!
You're not gonna cut it off with that rusty saw, are you?"
The wife, with a gleam of revenge in her eye, put the saw in her
husband's hand and said ....
"Nope....You are!
I'm gonna burn down the Barn!" (Yislaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaik…………..).
Been some harsh letters to the Editor of the Mail & Guardian regarding the Zapiro (Shapiro) add…and I have seen no feedback from the M & A ….Why would they answer, or retract…??? We are not ‘Mozzies’ and are very passive…
Just E-mazing how much power the sword has, compared to common sense Scheichel (‘logic’)………..

Phew two weeks to the Highlands reunion and the Manne have S-L-O-W-L-Y started booking, and it will be a ‘lekker’ get together, and they are hoping that fresh bonds between the SCHOOL and ex Pupils will be created….See http://stantgsm.com/Highlands.html for details……Graeme Joffee, 94.7 will be the Master of Ceremonies, being an ‘OLD’ boy…….

I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.
"Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.
I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

A Sefer Torah is being written in honour of a young guy, Kevin Shapiro, who passed away little over a year ago, and now unfortunately also in honour of his father, Ashley ( ex Mayfair) who just passed away last week.
Friends of Kevin’s have formed a committee and are raising funds through further friends and family of Kevin, however this isn’t going to be sufficient and it is a great opportunity for people to participate in this meaningful mitzvah, the last given by Moshe to bnei Yisroel .. go on the website www.kevinstorah.co.za

Parsha of The Week |
|
Rabbi Yossy Goldman,
Sydenham Shul,
C/O ‘Beloved Country’
Conduct Unbecoming
A life sentence for jay walking? Twenty years for chewing gum in public?! Singapore notwithstanding, surely that’s over the top.
Well, was it so different for Moses, who, in this week’s reading is punished and denied entrance to the Promised Land for the seemingly minor infraction of hitting the rock instead of speaking to it?
The people are clamoring for water in the wilderness. Hashem tells Moshe to speak to a certain rock (he was meant to ask nicely) and promises that, miraculously, water will flow from the rock. Commentary enlightens us as to the behind the scenes reasons for Moshe actually striking the rock, but in the end the miracle happens anyway and the people’s thirst is quenched.
So if your average rabbi today would make a rock produce water, even if the rock needed more than mere gentle persuasion, surely it would be hailed as the greatest miracle of the century and the rabbi would win the Nobel Prize for chemistry! But for Moses it is a problem? Even if it would have been a greater sanctification of the Divine had he only spoken to the rock, still, for such a minor infraction such a severe penalty?
The answer, we are told, is that responsibility is commensurate with the individual. If a child messes up, it is entirely forgivable. For an adult who should know better, we are less likely to be as forgiving. Likewise, among adults, from a person of stature we expect more than from an ordinary fellow.
A blemish on a coarse garment is not nearly as bad as it is on a piece of fine material. A stain on a pair of denims is not only acceptable, it is absolutely desirable. In fact, some people pay a premium for pre-stained jeans. Put the same stain on a silk tie and it’s simply un wearable.
Moshe was like the finest silk and, therefore, even the smallest, subtle hint of sin was considered a serious breach of conduct and the repercussions were severe.
I recall reading in one of Rabbi Dr AJ Twersky’s early books an exposition on the well-known Yiddish expression es past nit – it is unbecoming. When he was a child and his father would admonish him for doing the wrong thing, he would say es past nit, i.e. for you, this sort of behavior is unbecoming. Not only did such a rebuke not shatter the child’s self image, it reinforced it. A wise father was telling his child, ‘You are special, you are important, for someone like you; this sort of conduct is unbecoming.’ There are behavior patterns that are not necessarily criminal or sinful. Yet for someone from an esteemed family background, es past nit, it is unbecoming. This was the kind of criticism that could actually build a child’s self esteem.
How beautiful, that even in chastisement one can find validation and praise.
As I write these lines, I think of the Chupah ceremony when I officiate at a marriage. After reading the Ketubah in the original Aramaic, I usually read an abstract in English. There in the text one finds the antiquated expression, “even as it beseemeth a Jewish husband to do.” The groom’s obligations to his bride are reflected in that old, quaint turn of phrase reminding him that he will be expected to conduct himself appropriately - “as it beseems a Jewish husband to do.” Yes, we Jews do expect more from our husbands. There is a historical ethic and a sacred tradition we are all held to. No matter what the rest of the world may get up to, for a Jewish husband, es past nit.
Moshe was the greatest prophet that ever lived. For him, the standard could be no higher. Luckily for us mere mortals, we will not be held to that exalted benchmark. But we will be held to our own standard. The standard of Jews who were called upon by G-d to be “a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
