GOOD SHABBOS
27 May 2010

Dear All,

The weather is E-mazing, with warm BRIGHT’ sunny days, and cooler nights…..if it continues like this the Sokka 2010 Cup will start in Summer/Autumn…BUT….it changes in a minute, soooo those coming for the games from Overseas, bring Warm clothing , and some very warm Jackets, for those going to the Games at night ……

The two Semi final games were very ‘Lekker’ ……..The Bulls were not very convincing, and although the score line says something completely different, they lacked cohesion, and there play was very loose, and against the Stormers they will pay dearly….They will have to take charge from the beginning with some tight play, as the Stormers have a VERY robust line, and any loose play will be punished…Not sure what is going on with Dan Carter, as he has not shaped the whole season, and was totally out of the Semi Final, with some very sluggish play…my Man Ritchie Macaw played his heart out….BUT…it was not to be….The whole ‘Bobbameis’ about playing in Soweto was just that….if you think that for the World Cup, 1,000 of ‘Vicers’ will go to Sokka City to watch, and every week, for the past few years, the Schvartzer Sokka Teams, played at Venues  out side the Townships, and in fact, all the stadiums, besides Sokka City are OUT……
The Stormers played a blinder, and ‘ol Schalk was brilliant (even though he is not my best, and has cleaned up his act)…..the Line running, was slick, and their defence Rock solid, and even ‘Apolontjie (Dee Bee-The Rugger Buggers Man), played with Venom, and proved that size does not always count…speed is just as good……Imagine  Jomo Lomu coming at him in full cry ..Oey vey. Einaaaaaaaaaaah…the Waratahs played a VERY good game, and Waugh was all over, BUT………they were truly beaten…………
The Final, at the Historic Orlando Stadium will be a ‘Humdinger’ and I reckon that if the Bulls keep the game tight in the first half, they will cruise in  ………My prediction; Bulls to win…BUT…watch Jaque Fourie & ‘Apolontjie’…..
The passing awayof Sports writer Rodney Hartman this week was a big loss to sport, as he was VERY knowledgeable….. and he was a ‘old’ Potch High Boy, and was there same time as all the Lichtenburg ‘Yidlach’…….he was 61.

David Berman, ex Durban( and his company is called ‘Durban capital’, is not just Dee Bee ‘The Rugger Bugger’ , BUT….is also on the NY stock exchange and was interviewed by Bloomberg the other day……Quite a knowledgeable ‘Boytjie’…and he also runs Chess for Life, helping youngsters master the game, and by so doing, improving their general standards….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-9LrCt7RcU  If you want a ‘lekker’ Rugger report, send him an e-mail and he will put you on the list….. DeeBeeRugby@aol.com To be ADDED, please email and include your name, where you are from, who you support, and where you live. As Dee Bee says, if you want to cancel, he will not be offended………….

Old business man to a beautiful young model; would you consider sleeping with me for a million dollars?? “Hmmm, yes I think I would!!" she says.
"Well he says; how about five dollars then?"
“How dare you!! She says "what sort of girl do you think I am!!”
He says...."we’ve already established that! Now we are just fixing the price!!!""

The Cricket tour of the West Indies by the Boks  , has got off to a good start, with us winning the 2 20 / 20 games, and the 2 X 50 over ODI……..BUT…there is no support from the locals, and the crowds have been very small, even on the weekends….could it be two ‘Has been teams’ playing each other that has caused this….??? Some interesting Cricket thoughts http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/460278.html

Economics Teacher:
Can you give us an example of complete business failure due to professional negligence?
Student: ……….. A pregnant ‘Lady of the Night….! ! ! ! ! !

The Opening game at Sokka City in Soweto took place on the weekend, and the Stadium looked GR8888, and the night view with the crowd and the lights on was spectacular…….The Sokka 2010 is upon us……’Yislaaaaaaaaaik, let the games begin already………For the record, Wits – Bidvest (Schvartz) won against Amazulu 3-0….in the Nedbank Cup….. Brian Joffe was ‘Tukka’ smiling……

Last month a world-wide survey was conducted by the UN.
The only question asked was:-
"Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions
to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"
The survey was a huge failure because of the following:

1.     In Eastern Europe they didn't  know what "honest" meant.
2.     In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
3.     In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
4.     In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
5.     In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
6.     In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.
7.     In the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
8.   In Australia they hung up as soon as they heard the Indian accent.

Always good to get some Durban news, and Cecil wrote that Mark Samowitz (Chazzen –Victory park Shul) was in Durbs on the weekend to Sing in Shul as they had two Simcha’s…They celebrated the 75th birthday of Glenda Bernstein and the 50th birthday of Sidney Lazarus. Family and friends descended on Durban from around the globe. Sidney is the new Chairman of the Durban United Hebrew Congregation and vice-Chairman of the SA Jewish Board of Deputies Shakeach to Sidney and Mazeltov to all the families involved in the Simcha’s…….Remember that the Chabad of Umhlanga will be on the route of the Comrades Marathon this weekend, and they are having a ‘Grayser’ Shabbos at the Shul….. See www.chabadnc.com  for details ……..

A Mormon acquaintance once pushed Mark Twain into an argument on the issue of polygamy. After long and tedious expositions justifying the practice, the Mormon demanded that Twain cite any passage of scripture expressly forbidding polygamy.
"Nothing easier," Twain replied. "No man can serve two masters."(Soooo true…).

Little Stan Gordon was here from Melbourne this past week, and we really had a good ‘Koch’ about the ‘old’ Simcha days in the ‘Beloved Country’…we really did have special times, and it was not as ‘in your face’ as the present……We used to have a Goef (swim) at the ‘old’ Jewish Guild during Speeches, that seemed to carry on all night ( the odd one is l-o-n-g these days), the GR88888 Simcha’s we shared, like the ‘Krok’s Mock Wedding’ which was videod by Stan and Catered by Stan & Pete…..The Twins actually celebrate their birthdays this week….Happy Birthday……. Many years ago ( 30 ) Stan came up with the idea to make an advert, and drove us ‘Mishuga’ to do the AD, which took days to film, and another ‘Chaver’ Sedley Sewitz, ran National Home Video’s in those days, and he agreed to add the advert onto all video’s that he hired out, and it worked VERY well.. Managed to get my Zunnelle Joel, to make a ‘Youtube’ of it…..What a ‘Lag’.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kMmu6IEylg
Considering it was made a quarter century ago, the ‘Dream’ continues’………..and back to the present…..June Edelmuth did a Cheese Cake demo for Shavuot, which is really worth watching…GR8888 cheese cake…..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGFG1K-3IRU June is with Passion 8 Caterers in Sydney, who are ‘THE’ Caterers in OZ…….which has all Souff Effrikken “Balaboses’……June’s Husband, Steve, Stan & Felicia Kahn and my ‘OLD’ Chaver Graeme Flax…….

Clive would like to get in touch with Dr Hilda Podlas, born in Boksburg, Wits M.B,B.Ch 1965.Was a Radiologist In Johannesburg  some while back…If any one has contact details for Hilda , drop me a line….. smookler@netactive.co.za

Paddy and Murphy were talking one afternoon when Paddy tells Murphy,
"Ya know, I reckon I'm 'bout ready for a vacation. Only this year I'm gonna do it a little different. The last few years, I took your advice about where to go. Three years ago you said to go to Hawaii . I went to Hawaii and Molly got pregnant.

Then two years ago, you told me to go to the Bahamas and Molly got pregnant again.
Last year you suggested Tahiti and darn me, if Molly didn't get pregnant again."
Murphy asks Paddy, "So, what you gonna do this year that's different?"
Paddy says, "This year I'm taking Molly with me." ….. Oey vey………..

The pastor asked the congregation if anyone wished to express praise for
answered prayers. Judy Smith stood and walked to the podium.

She said, "I have praise. Two months ago, my husband, Tom, had a
terrible bicycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed.

The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him."
You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they
imagined the pain that poor Tom must have experienced. "Tom was unable to
hold me or the children," she went on, "and every move caused him terrible
pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it
turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom's
scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place."
Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as
they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Tom. "Now," she announced
in a quivering voice, "thank the Lord, Tom is out of the hospital and the
doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely." All the men sighed with unified relief. The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say.  A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium.  He said, "I'm Tom Smith." The entire congregation held its breath.

"I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum." (Einaaaaaaaaaaaaah…………).

Here's the solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports.  Have a booth you step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you.

It's a win-win for everyone, and there would be no privacy or racial profiling issues. No religious bigotry. No anti-Islamic issues. It would be relatively cost effective compared to the current screening system.  And it would be prejudiced against bad people with explosives.

It eliminates a long and expensive trial.  Justice will be swift.
Case closed!  This is so simple it's brilliant.
I can see it now: You're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion, followed by an announcement over the PA system,
"Attention standby passengers. We now have a seat available on flight number ..."

The Local Cartoonist, Jewish BORN ( Mmmmm) Shapiro, known as Zapiro , is in GROOT KAK, for doing a joke about the Prophet Muhammed…quite E-mazing, when he drew a ‘Deadly’ cartoon on the ‘Goldstone Affair’, no one threatened in the press…..BUT, Methinks he overstepped the mark this time…!  ! !! !  OR did he…why should everyone ‘Tzitter’ (shiver) for the Mumzers…..when it is OK to take the ‘Mickey’ out of everyone else…?????? Quite E-mazing how I seem to meet up with ‘old ’ Plaas boers all the time…Eli (Errol) Symon who hails from Delmas (Yes Delmas, not Ogies, Darvel,Leslie etc)…..and he has been in the Land of Milk & Honey for many years, and is a Lawyer who specialiZes in property, and he has teamed up with my ‘Cahver’ david Shacknofsky, to offer a full service to clients wanting to get involved in Property investments in Israel….and they ‘Tukka’ offer from A-z, and if you have properties that need TLC (Tender loving Care) they offer that also…..drop Eli a line, and he will fill you in… symonadv@netvision.net.il

Parsha of The Week

Rabbi Yossy Goldman,
Sydenham Shul,
C/O ‘Beloved Country’
Path of Least Resistance?

By now you have surely recovered from Pesach so we can break the news to you that there is also a Second Pesach. But don’t worry; you won’t have to do it all over again.

This week’s Parsha tells the story of a group of men who were unable to bring the Passover offering on Erev Pesach in the wilderness and approached Moses with a sincere request. “Why should we lose out?” It so happened that they had been occupied with a good deed - according to some it was nothing less than carrying the remains of Joseph from Egypt en route to his final resting place in Shechem – and because of their contact with the dead were spiritually unfit to participate in the Paschal lamb service.

Moses consulted G-d and was told that, in fact, the men were quite right. Henceforth, those who were spiritually impure or far away at the time the Passover offering was brought on the 14th of Nissan would be given a second chance exactly one month later on the 14th of Iyar to make good their lost opportunity.

There are many important lessons from this law, known as Pesach Sheini, such as “It’s never too late.” There are second chances in life for all of us. Or, that G-d sometimes waits to see if we really want something badly enough to demand it and only then does He give it to us.  But now I’d like to share with you an important message I once heard from the former Rosh Kollel of Johannesburg, the late Rabbi Mordechai Shakovitzky olov hasholom.

He said that what those men in Moses’ day did was actually quite inspiring. You see, they didn’t really have to come and plead with Moses for a second chance. After all, they had the perfect alibi. They could have simply said, “Sorry, we were busy with another mitzvah.” They were tamei and spiritually unable to participate. They had no reason to feel guilty. They couldn’t be faulted. And yet, it did bother them. They felt left out and genuinely desired to be together with their brethren in the observance of another mitzvah, the Pesach offering. People who had every opportunity to be free of obligation and wilfully choose to actively seek obligation are indeed deserving of honourable mention. It is right that they should be singled out in the Torah for their sincerity and devotion to the word of G-d.

Lots of us make excuses lots of times. It’s too cold, too hot, too expensive, too difficult etc, etc... Too many of us take the path of least resistance. Parents arranging a Bar Mitzvah for their son sometimes look for the easy way out. “Can we have it at Mincha, Rabbi? That will be less demanding on our son. He’s very active in the school sports program and won’t have that much time to learn.” Brides and grooms don’t always appreciate the beautiful way of life Judaism can offer our most intimate relationship. “Do we have to attend the classes, Rabbi? Is the Mikvah compulsory?”

“The difference between a success and a failure is that a failure makes excuses and a success makes a plan.”

Let’s not look for excuses. Don’t opt for the easy way out. Let us learn from the men in the wilderness who could have had every excuse in the book and yet happily chose to look for a new mitzvah and to share in the good deed of their community.
