GOOD SHABBOS
28 January 2010 |
|
|

Dear All,
The rain continues, and as it does, so does the infrastructure in the ‘Ou’ Transvaal (Gauteng) crumble more …and I read a Seriaaaaaaaas article, where they reckon the weather may change in February, and we might (??) get the El Nino weather pattern, which means it could get Very ‘Schvitzadik’ and VERY Dry (??), and the best part of the article was that at the end of Summer (when was summer) , we might see that the ave rainfall might be average (Go figure)….not sure about that, as I reckon if we have not another drop, the rain since October is the most-by far I can remember, BUT….I must say that the weather , in spite of all the rain is good, and it is not cold at all……
Wife goes to supermarket, sees man's briefs on sale.
She buys a dozen of the same colour. Goes home and gives hubby.
Hubby protests, " Why buy me the same colour?
People will think I do not change underwear!! ……… Wife asks,
"Which people?" Mmmmmmmmmmmmm……
This past weekend was a Sokka sporting weekend, and they had a test run of the Sokka 2010 Stadium in Greenpoint which went very well, and Bafana Bafana won 6-2 against Swaziland (who…??), BUT….it was a win, and hopefully, at the price they are paying the coach, things get better before the Sokka 2010 start in June……. Got an E-mail offering GR88888 accomadation for the first week of the Sokka 2010 In Cape town….. "One week of timeshare available during the first week of the World Cup in Cape Town at The Peninsula Hotel, ultra luxury - http://www.peninsula.co.za/ June 11 - June 18, 2010. Please contact Hilton Reading at hilton.reading@yahoo.com with your offer." I think Hilton was a Highlands ‘old’ boy……..
A woman took off her jeans and threw it at her husband saying:
MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A WOMAN.........
He removed his jeans, threw it at her and said:
WASH BOTH....... (Einaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah….).
I've just found out I can still have sex at 85 …………………..
I am so happy because I live at No. 81, so it's not too far to walk home . . .
Einaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah……Mickey (Mouse) Arthur, the Souff Effrikken coach is on his way, after ( supposedly ..??) having a fight with Captain Couragous Graeme Smith….I am sure he did not ‘just resign’ as the papers say, BUT….was given a gentle push, just like ’OUR’ very own Raymond Hack…..
Really strange how coaches in the ‘Beloved Country’ are ‘Tukka’ badly treated, and if any of the succesors being bandied around were any better…???? Corrie Van Zyl is the hot contender….Oey Vey…and now they reckon the good ‘ol ‘Race Card’…gotta LUV the Manne….whenever something goes wrong, bring in the Race card……..and of course one only has to look at Sokka in The Beloved Country’ to see what happens when a few spoilt Manne get their way…..
Got a ‘Lekker’ note from Dave Berman ,the ‘Rugger Bugger’……..
Greenpoint Stadium
The new Cape Town stadium on the Atlantic looks like a gem and is ready, with the first local soccer game last week attracting and limited to 20,000. In a week plus the Stormers will play Boland in a warm-up there, and 40,000 will be admitted. The stadium seats 67,000. AS beautiful as it is, aside from a few games it will surely be a white elephant, and takes up primary real estate. In modern times, it must surely be the only big stadium in the world on such prime property. Only in Effrikka…..Ek stem saaaaaaaaaaaaam….
BEFORE MARRIAGE
John – Ah … At last. I can hardly wait!
Jane - Do you want me to leave?
John – NO! Don’t even think about it.
Jane – Do you love me?
John – Of course! Always have and always will!
Jane – Have you ever cheated on me?
John – NO! Why are you even asking?
Jane – Will you kiss me?
John – Every chance I get!
Jane – Will you hit me?
John – Hell no! Are you crazy?!
Jane – Can I trust you?
John – Yes
Jane – Darling!
AFTER MARRIAGE
Read from the bottom back to the top
Last Shabbos, Sir Henry Blumenthal made a few announcements at ‘OUR’ Sandton Shul that were VERY important and quite humorous…… Firstly, the Worlds greatest Chazzan of Modern times …Yitzchack Meir Helgot who is to perform at the Lyric Theatre @ Gold Reef City, on the 7th February in aid of a new Hospital being built in Ashdod….. Details for bookings ; http://stantgsm.com/list_info.php . ‘OUR’ very own Chazzan, Avron Alter will be accompanying the Chazzan ….. The second was that Chief Rabbi Lau will be attending the gala evening………Both GR8888 things…Here comes the Humorous part……The way Sir Henry ‘emphasized’ that , Firstly, The Chazzan would be @ Sandton Shul for Shabbos and secondly, Rabbi Lau would also be spending Shabbos @ the Sandton Shul….He could easily do one of those Infomercials on TV, and bring in many buyers…..Jokes aside, this will a huge SHABBOS @ Sandton, and remember the Shul only takes 1,400 …..an interesting point made by Sir Henry, was that the Israeli Government has not built one major hospital in the ‘Land of Milk & Honey’ and all the gr8888 hospitals they have was from Donour money…and the New hospital in Ashdod is NO different…..Sooooo come early to avoid disappointment……….It reminds me about an old joke I have put out a few times…..
Arti was having problems with his wife, and his friend Koos offered to wipe her out. Arti said he had no money, Koos gladly accepts as he did not like Arti’s wife at all…..
Next day he goes to teller 1 at P’n P and sees Arti’s wife and he walks up to her and strangles her…Teller 2 shouts
”What are you doing to my friend “ ???, ……so he goes up and strangles her…..
Headlines in The Star the next day; Arti-chokes two for the price of one at P’n P
BUT………….. Sir Henry did slip up, as young Ryan Manoim (15), will be reading the Maftir & Haftorah on the Shabbos, as it is his Parsha, from his Barmy …..Ryan is in the Choir, and sang Ein K’ Loheinu on Yomtov like a champ, and I am sure he will make up the Hat rick of why ‘Yidden’ should come to Shul for a special SHABBOS @ Sandton…coincidently, it is my Zunnelle Martin’s Parsha from his Barmy also……
Also this past Shabbos Rabbi Weinberg gave a VERY interesting Droshe on Friday night…….Last week, a ‘Yiddisher’ boytjie took a flight from NY, and as the plane took off he started laying ‘Tefellin’ and ‘punkt’ on that flight, no one had ever seen ‘tefillin’ and a few of the passengers got nervous thinking it was a ‘bomber’ with the ehad piece on, and the straps hanging down….the plane made an emergency landing on route, and the ‘Yiddisher’ boychick was released, with no further action….the result was that the word ‘Teffilin’ was the 5th most ‘Goooooogled’ word that week, soooooo I reckon sooooo many ‘Goyim’ are now clued up on what ‘Tefillin’ are……and this whole episode coincided with Sandton Shuls very own ‘Tefillin Club’ celebrating its first year in existence…Rabbi Dovid Weinberg started the Club, with the backing of the Itchikowitz family ( From Springs ‘Amolikke Yoren’)…and it is really a success story….. I was sent a story many years ago, and I read it from time to time, and as it has to do with ‘Tefillin, I have given the link…….a truly moving, heartbreaking ‘Schtick’….
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0905/krohn_bound.php3 A very ‘Lekker’ Yiddisher Joke about ‘Tefillin’ is……
Solly was in a hospital ward with two non-Jews. On his first morning, Solly puts on his tefillin, but the non-Jews can't figure out what he is doing.
Finally, one says to the other, "Look how smart these Jews are !
He's taking his own blood pressure. ( a meichel…………….)
Glenda Peimer , who has been teaching dancing to the Kinderlach for years, now also offers Dance lessons for that special Simcha OR first Dance….. See http://stantgsm.com/simcha/extra.html for details..... Glenda Peimer
082 557 4473 ..only last week I was talking to Doc.Farrel Spiro about his Zunnelle Greg’s Wedding ‘Amolikke Yoren’ and they had just come out with a dance routine, and about 60 of the couples friends, got onto the dance floor and did some Mauritian dance, which was E-mazing……
The school inspector is assigned to the grade 4 class in one of the local schools.. He is introduced to the class by the teacher.
She says to the class: "Let's show the inspector just how clever you are by allowing him to ask you a question." The inspector reasons that normally class starts with religious instruction, so he will ask a biblical question.
He asks: "Class, who broke down the walls of Jericho ?"
For a full minute there is absolute silence. The children all just stare at him blankly. Eventually Sipho raises his hand. The Inspector excitedly points to him.
Sipho stands up and replies: "Sir, I do not know who broke down the walls of Jericho , but I can assure you it wasn't me."
Of course the inspector is shocked by the answer and looks at the teacher for an explanation.
Realizing that he is perturbed, the teacher says: Well, I've known Sipho since the beginning of the year, and I believe that if he says that he didn't do it, then he didn't do it."
The inspector is even more shocked at this and storms down to the principal's office and tells him what happened, to which the principal replies: "I don't know the boy, but I socialize every now and then with his teacher, and I believe her. If she feels that the boy is innocent, then he must be innocent."
The inspector can't believe what he is hearing. He grabs the phone on the principal's desk and in a rage dials the Minister of Education's telephone number and rattles the entire occurrence to her and asks her what she thinks of the education standard in SA.
The Minister sighs heavily and replies: "I don't know the boy, the teacher, nor the principal, but just get three quotes and have the wall fixed!!"

A ‘Mishugana’ Youtube…if you are one of the sensitive type , do not watch….If you can appreciate a Joke, watch……not sure why anyone would take the trouble to make a ‘Schtick’ like this……?????

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store.
As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked,
" Boychick, can you tell me where the Post Office is?"
The little boy replied, "Sure!
Just go straight down this street a couple blocks and turn to your right."
The man thanked the boy kindly and said,
"I'm the new Rabbi in town.
I'd like for you to come to Shul on Shabbos.
I'll show you how to get to Heaven."
The little boy replied with a chuckle.
"Awww, come on... you don't even know the way to the Post Office." (Oey vey..)

The Shopkella is a project of the Jewish Women’s Benevolent, who have been around for over 100 years…
While in Hermanus, I went to see the new Shul they have built and it is very nice and functional……BUT……I was E-mazed at the position…..across the road from a cemetery, in between a few churches……must say, on a Seriaaaaaaas note, that it is a very nice project, well executed…….In Cape Town I went to my normal, The Marais Street Shul, and the Choir is a ‘Michel’ ……. BUT…the Shtieblach have eaten away at the attendance, and gone are the days when they would seat men upstairs, for the overflow and bring in chairs in front of the Bima…….Their choir is a ‘Michel’ to listen to. As they have quite a big choir and it is a full sound…….I bumped into Daryl Rosen and his family in Sea Point, and it was good to see him after many years (Oz). He was a waiter ‘Amolikke Yoren’ with the Shrank Broers (real Manne) and the Arluck Schvesters, Shana & Ilana (Bobba), Roy Wittert (Oz) and Any Chodos……Those ‘Tukka’ were the days, when 99% of the Waitresses were ‘Yiddisher ‘ Kinderlach, and it is E-mazing how many of the Kinderlach are still in touch with me…………another stalwart, Janine Reznick is coming in March for her ‘Cuzzies’ wedding, and I will see her…..
The year of Sokka 2010, is of course the 10th. Anniversary of this ‘Mishuga’ Stan The Good Shabbos Man, MY Matric 40th Anniversary ( yes I did get a Matric) and my ‘old’ School Highlands North High School is having a GENERAL
Reunion during the Sokka 2010 showcase………. I appeal to all my old Chavers that were at Highlands 1966 (England won the World Cup) 1970, the Golden years, to please drop me an E-mail, no matter where you are, so that I can pass on to Herbert Epstein in Melbourne, to evaluate……make the effort, and please read the joke that follows…….and for ALL Highlands Old Boys , just send an e-mail and tell us where you are….I reckon that on my mailing list, I must have at least 500/600 ‘Old’ boys …some VERY old, and at least 200 are local…..Read the Joke that follows…..
A few ‘old’ Manne from a school get together a few years after finishing school and decide that on the 20th. Anniversary, they will get as many Chavers from their year together and have a reunion at the Carlton.
Every few years they get together, and commit to their earlier wish, to meet at the carlton Hotel…..this goes on until , in the 40th. year, they finally set up a proper meeting and decide to be like NIKE, and ‘Just Do It’ (not her)……low and behold, they manage to get virtually the whole year to come, BUT……the Carlton has closed down, and they never had the reunion in the end…..Makes one think…?????
‘Manne’, make these reunions work….. it’s up to you….
There comes a time, when one has to restate the Aims of a project; “Stan The Good Shabbos Man “ was started in 2000, when I sold Stan & Pete, and needed to get to learn how to do the basics on a Komputta…..Oey vey, those first few months were a killer……and I sent a weekly Good Shabbos to my family and a few ‘ol friends….and the Politics were really ‘Left wing’ and the Jokes were NASTY, and of course sport-Rugger being my ‘bestest’. ……and before I knew it I had a few hundred followers……and all I wrote was HEAVY politics, Nasty Jokes, about Lichtenburg (where I was born) Highlands were I did Matric, Hotelschool and of course my 30 years at Stan & Pete…….over the years the content has changed, and the Politics are MILD, MOST Jokes are PAP, and I cover a wide spectrum of ‘KAK’ as it happens….the one thing that has got to me over the past few months, is the VERY few groans about some of the Jokes being a bit on the Grey side……..Over the years I have mellowed, and the Below the belt jokes have all but vanished…the \’Komplaints’ now seem to be about politically correct jokes……ie No gay jokes, NO Reform jokes, NO Women jokes etc, and sooooon I will be telling Kindergarden jokes…..??????
I took the trouble to Gooogle the word JOKE in Dictionaries, and came up with a central theme……
‘Something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, especially an amusing story with a punch line. A mischievous trick; a prank.
An amusing or ludicrous incident or situation. Informal.
Something not to be taken seriously; a triviality... An object of amusement or laughter.’
OK, enough of the heavy stuff…The Jokes are usually in bold print, sooooooo just ignore them, if they worry you…..when I see the Jokes in the daily newspapers, magazines etc….and of course the Radio, I am E-mazed that politically correct jokes ONLY are wanted from ME…!!!!!! I have experimented by changing Bonani , Sipho & Bwana jokes, to Van Der merwe, Murphy O’Brein etc…and Wallah, nobody complains…??? E-mazing also is that when it is an Orthodox ‘Type’ joke…never a complaint, BUT….Reform…Bigtime, gay jokes are forbidden and Moslem jokes are definitely Vorbotten…….Remember a Joke is a Joke…..no matter how Seriaaaaaaaaaaas a topic it is….it helps bring relief…an example would be..:
The situation in Haiti is UNBEARABLE and VERY SAD, BUT……received the following, and it is after all a Joke….
The people of Haiti must be ready to receive the ‘Best of the Best’ that will be arriving in a full Boeing from the ‘Beloved Country’ to voluntary assist with the LOOTING…….
Start loosening up a bit……….one reader mentioned that I should use more ‘mild’ Yiddisher jokes, you send ,I put on…..the same 100 DEAD Jewish Jokes that have been circulating for the past 20 years, is all that’s available…..hope you get the POINT, as it is difficult to explain in writing…would be easier using my hands and talking to you all……
World Bnei Akiva have started a project of assistance for the people of Haiti…

Did a ‘Locum’ at the Grabman (Nikki) / Chemel (Daniel) wedding, and it was a very ‘lebedikke’ affair, with the Marathon Man, Johnny Birin in top form…..Met quite a few ex Pats at the wedding, and the Nikki’s Uncle Julian Grabman who has been riding the ‘Slinky’ Limo’s for years……… The Master of Ceremonies, Michael Lewus (Nikki’s brother in Law) was really in top form, a we wish him and Andy happy Anniversary ……. Mike is of course part of the Lewus family from Port Elizabeth ( get a lot of people asking for more PE news), and Mike’s two brothers Alan & Neil worked for a long time at Stan & Pete…Mike never made the grade as a waiter, BUT…I am not surprised, as he fancies himself as a bit of a cowboy…..(See pictures) http://stantgsm.com/list_classifieds.php
Seriaaaaaaaaas story this El-Al ….due to a disclosure from one of the Security personal that was fired from El-Al, they are considering stopping direct flights from the ‘Beloved Country’ to the ‘Land of Milk & Honey’……very worrying, after 50 years…. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1144474.html

"Havens, I've even bought a kilt to be married in!" continues Jock.
"A kilt?" exclaims Archie, "that's braw; you'll look pure smart in that!
And what's the tartan?" Archie then enquires. "Och," says Jock,
"I'd imagine she'll be in white..."

Now that the ‘silly’ season (Holiday) is behind us, time to concentrate and get back to the Security routine, as people seem to have a false security during the holiday break.
Should you be a victim of crime…….
- Stay calm, do not panic
- Don’t resist-follow instructions
- Try and remember details of the Gunovim, without them noticing….
- Report the crime to the Police Station immediately or Call 10111.
You can make a huge difference by;
- Reporting Drug activity
- Stolen property.
- Suspicious vehicles or persons…VERY important to be aware all the time
- Not buying ‘Gegunverde’ (stolen) stuff at Robots, most of the sunglasses, DVD’s etc are not genuine , and of course most of the Sokka 2010 stuff on the roads are also fakes…– Don’t support them.

Parsha of The Week |
|
Rabbi Yossy Goldman,
Sydenham Shul,
C/O ‘Beloved Country’
The Test of Transition
They say adapt or die. But must we jettison the old to embrace the new? Is the choice limited to modern or antiquated, or can one be a contemporary traditionalist? Do the past and present ever co-exist?
At the beginning of this week’s Parsha we read that Moses himself was occupied with a special mission as the Jews were leaving Egypt. And Moses took the remains of Joseph with him. Over a hundred years before the great Exodus, Joseph made his descendants swear that they would take him along when they would eventually leave Egypt. As Viceroy, Joseph could not hope to be buried in Israel when he died as his father Jacob was. The Egyptians would never tolerate their political leader being buried in a foreign land. But he did make his brethren give him their solemn undertaking that when the time would come and all the Israelites would depart they would exhume his remains and take him along. And so they did. So it was that while everyone else was busy packing up, loading their donkeys and getting ready for the Great Trek into the Wilderness, Moses himself was busy with this mission, fulfilling the sacred promise made to Joseph generations ago.
Now, according to tradition, Joseph was not the only one to be exhumed and reinterred in the holy land. His brothers, too, were accorded the very same honour and last respects. Yet, it is only Joseph whom the Torah finds it necessary to mention explicitly. Why?
The answer is that Joseph was unique. While his brothers were simple shepherds tending to their flocks, Joseph was running the affairs of state of the mightiest superpower of the day. To be a practicing Jew while blissfully strolling through the meadows is not that complicated. Alone in the fields, communing with nature and away from the hustle and bustle of city life, one can more easily be a man of faith. But to run a massive government infrastructure as the most high profile statesman in the land and still remain faithful to one’s traditions, this is not only a novelty, this is absolute inspiration.
Thrust as he was from the simple life of a young shepherd boy into the hub of the nation’s capital to juggle the roles of Viceroy and Jew, Joseph represented tradition amidst transition. It was possible, he taught the world, to be a contemporary traditionalist. One could successfully straddle both worlds.
Now as they were about to leave Egypt, the Jews were facing a new world order. Gone were slavery and oppression and in were freedom and liberty. During this time of transition only Joseph could be their role model. Unlike his brothers, he was able to make the transition from meadow to metropolis, from spiritual dreamer to economic strategist. They would need his example to show them the way forward into uncharted territory, the new frontier. That is why the Torah only mentions Joseph as the one whose remains went along with the people. They needed to take him with them so, like him, they too would make their own transition successfully.
Ever since leaving Egypt, we’ve been wandering. And every move has brought with it its own challenges. Whether from Poland to America or Lithuania to South Africa, every transition has come with culture shocks to our spiritual psyche. How do you make a living and still keep the Shabbos you kept in the shtetl when the factory boss says “Cohen, if you don’t come in on Saturday, don’t bother coming in on Monday either!?” It was a test of faith that wasn’t at all easy. Many succumbed. But many others stood fast and survived, even flourished. It was the test of transition and those who modeled themselves on Joseph were able to make the transition while remaining committed to tradition. Democracy and a human rights culture have made that part of Jewish life somewhat easier but challenges abound still.
In all our own transitions today, may we continue to learn from Joseph.
